Starting The OC Monitor

This section provides step-by-step instructions on how to start the Thin Client Browser deployment components.

Windows
1.    In the Tomcat bin directory, double-click the startup.bat file to start the servlet container (Tomcat).

2.    Execute the following four scripts:

• Win_RunOCMDatabase.bat to start the OC Monitor Database.
• Win_RunOCMDataserver.bat to start the OC Monitor Data Server.
• Win_RunOCMDisplayServer_DS.bat to start the OC Monitor Display Server.
• Win_RunOCMHistorian_DS.bat to start the OC Monitor Historian.

      There are three methods for executing the scripts:

• Double-click the batch files in the OC Monitor bin directory.
• Double-click rtvoc_cmd.bat in the OC Monitor installation directory to open an initialized command prompt window, then change to a cluster project directory such as myocm.
• Use the OC Monitor desktop shortcuts (created by rtvoc_setup.bat).

3.    Test the Thin Client Browser deployment by performing the following:

• Open a Web browser and browse to the following URL:
  http://host:8068/myocm
  
  Where host is the IP or host name where Tomcat is running.
  
  NOTE: This step assumes that you are using the Tomcat available from the OC Monitor download page. If you are using an existing Tomcat or a different servlet container, change the port in the URL as needed.

       The Web browser should display a menu in a panel on the left, and login fields in the main panel.

• Login. The default user name and password are:

 User Name: demo
 Password: demo

          The Cluster Overview display appears.

UNIX/Linux

1.    Open a command prompt window and start the servlet container (Tomcat).
       Example:
       export CATALINA_HOME=/opt/apache-tomcat-6.0.18-sl
       cd /opt/apache-tomcat-6.0.18-sl/bin
       ./startup.sh

2.    Navigate to the OC Monitor installation directory.
       Example:
       cd /opt/rtvoc_55c1

3.    Execute the Initialization script.
       Bourne shell:
       . ./rtvoc_init.sh (Note that there are two periods with a space between them.)

       Bash shell:
       source rtvoc_init.sh

4.    Navigate to the myocm directory (default cluster project directory).
       Example:
       cd projects/myocm

NOTE: This step is vital. OC Monitor scripts must be executed from a cluster project directory. If you execute them from any other directory, you will get inconsistent and undesirable results.

5.    In the myocm directory:

• Start HSQLDB.
  Example:
  Unix_RunOCMDatabase.sh –bg
  
  Process output is sent to hsqldb.log
  
• Start the Data Server.
  Example:
  Unix_RunOCMDataServer.sh –bg
  
  Process output is sent to dataserver.log
  
• Start the Display Server.
  Example:
  Unix_RunOCMDisplayServer_DS.sh –bg
  
  Process output is sent to displayserver.log
  
• Start the historian.
  Example:
  Unix_RunOCMHistorian_DS.sh –bg
  
  Process output is sent to historian.log

6.    Test the Thin Client Browser deployment by performing the following:

• Open a Web browser using the following URL:
  http://host:8068/myocm
  
  Where host is the IP or host name where Tomcat is running.
  
  This step assumes that you are using the Tomcat available from the OC Monitor download page. If you are using an existing Tomcat or a different servlet container, change the port in the URL as needed.

Alternate Layouts
The Display Servlet directory within the servlet container contains three versions of the OC Monitor Web page:

• index_accordion.html
  Provides an accordion menu in the left panel that automatically expands and contracts as main items are selected.
  
• index_tabs.html
  Provides a tab menu on top of the main display panel. This layout allows access to a subset of monitor displays tailored for a specific monitoring task.
  
• index_tree.html
  Provides a navigation tree with expandable/collapsible nodes.

One of the layouts can be copied to index.html if desired, or it can be entered manually: http://host:port/myocm/index_tabs.html.
